For Gianna and Brian, a visionary couple from the United States, the appeal of Umbria lay in its “unfiltered” beauty. They sought an experience that moved away from the ornate in favor of a Minimalist Dramatic aesthetic—a celebration where the ancient architecture and the rugged landscape were the primary designers. IWP Italian Wedding Planners (part of the Sposiamovi group) designed a two-day residency (October 17–18, 2024) at Castello di Petrata, utilizing the fortress’s raw stone and epic scale to create a “Quiet Luxury” sanctuary.

The choice of mid-October allowed the couple to embrace the atmospheric transition of the seasons. The misty Umbrian mornings and the dramatic, moody sunsets over the valley of Assisi provided a cinematic quality that perfectly complemented their modern, understated style.

The Setting: 14th-Century Solitude Overlooking Assisi

Castello di Petrata is a masterpiece of medieval resilience, a former stronghold that now offers 360-degree views of the Umbrian countryside. For American couples who value privacy and “Stealth Wealth,” this venue is a treasure. Its location, perched above the spiritual hub of Assisi, lends a sense of sacredness to the celebration without the constraints of a formal religious setting.

The symbolic ceremony was held in the castle’s expansive gardens. Against the backdrop of weathered stone walls and the sprawling valley below, Gianna and Brian exchanged vows in a setting that felt profoundly grounded. The contrast between their contemporary bridal style and the 14th-century masonry created a visual tension that was both editorial and deeply moving.

Design Concept: “Minimalist Drama” & Tailored Florals

The creative direction focused on “high-impact simplicity,” ensuring every element served a purpose.

• The Floral Narrative: Sartoria Floreale executed a concept that was sculptural rather than decorative. Moving away from overflowing arrangements, the floral design used a curated palette of autumnal textures and monochromatic blooms to highlight the castle’s architecture. The result was a “Dramatic” look that felt tailored and modern.
• The Beauty Brief: Paola Bianchera curated a look for Gianna that was the epitome of “Architectural Beauty”—a sophisticated, minimalist style that stood out against the raw, rustic textures of the castle’s interiors.
• Lighting & Atmosphere: Calderini Music Service designed a lighting scheme that utilized the castle’s own shadows. As evening fell, the fortress was illuminated with warm, precise glows that highlighted the ancient masonry, creating a moody, intimate atmosphere for the celebration.

Gastronomy & The Rhythm of the Hills

A wedding at Castello di Petrata is a tribute to the Umbrian earth. The culinary experience focused on elevated regional excellence, served within the castle’s historic halls where the flickering candlelight and stone hearths provided a sense of timeless warmth.

The musical arc was carefully curated to reflect the “Minimalist” soul of the weekend:

• The Atmosphere: The Fratelli Marelli trio provided a soulful, acoustic soundtrack that echoed through the castle’s courtyards, offering a lighthearted but sophisticated Italian touch to the cocktail hour.
• The Celebration: The transition into the night was led by DJ Fabio Gerbino, whose contemporary set transformed the medieval fortress into a modern lounge, celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs. under the crisp October stars.

To document a wedding of this specific “Minimalist Dramatic” scale, we collaborated with Aislinn Rose Photo. Her editorial eye and ability to capture candid, atmospheric moments resulted in a gallery that feels like a high-fashion documentary.
